In Defense of ExWitch Ministries

Obsidian

I've caught flak recently for defending ExWitch Ministries so vehemently. I catch flak from canars asking how I could support what they perceive as a detriment to the neopagan movement, and I have had a particular Christian ask why, if I believe in the ExWitch mission so ardently, I don't just become a Christian myself. Well, the answer is rather complex, and needs to be addressed in a rather elaborate fashion. I have hence decided to compose this essay in defense of the only Christian ministry I have ever supported since becoming pagan.

Before I do this, I should make note that I have made many close friends at ExWitch, both Christian and pagan, and the Mirror would not exist had I not scratched up that first rant on ExWitch's very message board. For that above all else I am grateful to ExWitch, a community I have been an almost integral part of since September 2002.

Here goes.

This ministry serves to benefit both the Christian and the Neopagan communities. The Christian community, of course, has a sensible and reliable witnessing tool at its command now with the continued growth of the ministry's website (which is in part my fault...hehe). The Christian believes witchcraft to be against God's will, and has a plethora of Scriptural verses on hand to prove it. Now they have means to win us over without turning our spiritual dignity into a casualty.

"But how the fuck does ExWitch help the Neopagan community?" asks SilverMoonStar Fluffybunny. Well, Junior, this ministry helps the Neopagan community in the following ways:

  1. First and foremost, it presents the Christian argument in plain English.
  2. It weeds out those who are spiritually incapable or unready to embrace a pagan religion, lifestyle and perspective.
  3. It reminds the weak little fluffbunny dabblers that toddlers shouldn't play with mitre saws, and acts as Jesus' sheepdog, keeping his flock in his pasture.
  4. It gives serious pagans a place to speak to, debate with and learn from Christians on a civil level, and vice versa.
  5. It keeps our numbers down so Neopaganism doesn't become the mainstream. Trust me when I say that Wicca™ DOES NOT want to become the majority religion, and if the NWO did succeed by some freak accident, the world and our souls would be in serious peril. I'll definitely have to expound upon that one later.

Now that I've explained how I feel this site benefits all of us, let me explain why I haven't returned to Christianity, because it needs to be answered:

I am not a Christian because I do not see God the same way Christians do. Actually, I don't see God the same way most Neopagans do, because I understand how gods are made and believed in, and I am actually comfortable referring to my gods in the all-encompassing singular. I do not believe salvation in the Christian sense is necessary, because my goal in life is not the destination, but the journey. I really don't give two flying pig fucks where I end up when I die; I'll build that bridge when I get there. As long as the journey was worthwhile, I will be well. I'd rather have spent my life well and find out the Christians were right and burn forever in Hell than having wasted my life waiting for heaven and finding nothing at the end of the tunnel. At least now my life means something, and what I believe the afterlife entails is irrelevant. I nor anyone else alive right now knows the real answer, even if they think they do.

If more people were like me, and supported ExWitch Ministries, the world would be a better place, and maybe we wouldn't need witchcraft to get us what we need...we might be able to count on a good Christian to help us.

Wouldn't that be nice.
